Garage & Workshop

In 2002, working for Freeland Rees Roberts, the practice was asked to design a garage with a workshop, a potting shed and a small office space in the garden of a Victorian house on a substantial corner plot. The client wanted the structure to be strong enough so a motor enjin could be suspended from the ceiling. A substantial Glulum beam was designed and the building was developed from this request, with the garage and potting shed being to the street side of the building and the workshop and office space to the back. We designed a breathable timber structure, with sarket board as and external vapour barrio and doubling up as racking material, and the frame was cladded with larch and lime plaster with horse hair on expamet. This resulted in an unusual and lovely building and the clients were very happy with the result.
